Birth of my Blog

I've been thinking lately about why people destroy other people and their things. My neighbor has a lighted nativity scene out for the Christmas season. Last year someone (we know who) stole the Baby Jesus. This year, my neighbor had a little barn built to house the nativity scene with an accompanying star on a pole above it. She also purchased a new Baby Jesus. It was striking to come upon in the night. (We live in the country and our road is pretty empty after eight o'clock in the evening.) Anyway, someone bashed in the sides of the little barn very early on Christmas morning. This morning, my husband went "to town". On the way, he discovered that several mailboxes along our road had been totally demolished. Last spring, a country cemetery in our county had its front brick wall and surrounding fence destroyed by some persons within our county. We know one of the persons who did this one too. All of the perpetrators are in the early twenties.

Now, I understand being angry and wanting to hit out, but I don't do it. Why do some persons actually destroy things that have no bearing upon what they are angry about? Is it because certain things and people are vulnerable, so it's easy to destroy them? Is it because the people who feel the rage are cowards and only hit on the vulnerable thus not going after the real causes of their rage?

I think that war is the ultimate "acting out" and that the reasons for war can generally be attributed to rage at someone else's religion, politics, or worth in possessions, treasure. or power. Am I wrong or is war the coward's way to settle some issue, especially if the aggressor is mighty within itself and knows that there will have to be no payback?

Saddam Hussein was put to death this morning. Yes, I am sure he was a human monster, but
what about the people ruling and killing in the Sudan, the rulers of Rwanda, and on and on? Why is our country not doing something to those folks and helping the downtrodden in the world? Is it because our leaders are only interested in besting those they know they can best and profit by doing so?

I would welcome your thoughts on my thoughts. Thanks. Emma
